Dear Editor:
What a delight it was to read the essay on the Opinion Page on Tuesday, Nov. 19, entitled “My one and only,” written by Westside fifth-grader, Madisynn Valdez. Her story of tribute to her grandfather, fondly referred throughout as “Papa,” was so well-written and was such a tribute to him, his heroic service to our country and to values that seem to have been put on the back burner lately by some.
I salute you Ms. Madisynn Valdez! You are one-in-a-million, just like your grandfather!
I think we should hear from our children that write wonderful pieces like this more often.
Sincerely,
Donna Sullivan
