Gordon E. Singer, 84, of Cheyenne died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Singer was born June 3, 1926, in Cody, a son of the late Matthew and Clair Singer.

Gordon worked on the family farm in Powell and played football for Powell High School until his graduation. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Pacific with the 77th Infantry. Following his honorable discharge, Gordon returned to Wyoming and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wyoming, Class of 1950. 

He married Nancy R. Spildener on May 24, 1952, by Father Hartman at St. Mary’s Cathedral. He was employed as an IRS Field Agent and later served as the director of the Federal Energy Department for 30 years. He then worked for the American National Bank Trust Department until his retirement.

He was a quiet, kind and gentle soul who was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was an avid Wyoming football fan and enjoyed all sports. He also enjoyed carpentry and working around his home.  He was always one to help others in need.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy R. Singer of Cheyenne; his son, Greg (Lynn) Singer of Cheyenne; three grandchildren, Jeremiah Justin (Melissa) Clark of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Piper and Paxton Singer of Cheyenne; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sandra Clark; two brothers; and one sister.

A memorial service with military honors will be conducted on Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m. at the Schrader Chapel with Father Steve Titus officiating. 

A reception will immediately follow at the Schrader Reception Facility. Cremation is under the direction of Schrader Funeral Home.
