Colossians Chapter 3, Verse 3 says we are to look up and set our affections on Jesus Christ, and not on people who live here.
Jesus Christ, the sinless savior from Judah, taught his disciples to always look up and approach God with the words Abba, Father.
If we do not operate from this foundation, then our helping others will have no lasting eternal value.
God first, man second.
