Gilmore signs letter of intent

Senior will play for Miles Community College

Seth Gilmore, a senior at Powell High School, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next year for Miles Community College. MCC head coach Jeff Brabant announced the signing on Tuesday.

Gilmore is being eyed for use on the left side of the MCC Pioneers’ infield. Brabant noted the Powell senior is capable of playing either shortstop or third base.

“We will graduate our left side of the infield, so we expect Seth to come in and compete for a spot,” said Brabant.

Gilmore hit .528 for the Powell Pioneers last summer, finishing with 72 RBIs. Of his 84 hits last summer, 36 went for extra bases, including six home runs.

“Seth is a good left-handed bat and he has a good arm at short,” said Powell Pioneers coach Mike Jameson, who will have the luxury of coaching Gilmore this summer during American Legion baseball. “He’s got great baseball knowledge. His understanding of the game is another of his biggest assets. I think he’ll do really well up there.”

Jameson added that he knows other schools were also interested in Gilmore.

Prior to coming to Powell, Gilmore was a first-team all-conference performer as both a freshman and sophomore at Lone Pine, Calif., where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football.

“It is an honor to sign with Miles Community College and be able to be a part of the Pioneer baseball team,” said Gilmore. “I knew right away I wanted to start my college baseball and academic career in Miles City. Playing ball is my passion and I am excited to have this opportunity to focus on my education and further develop and advance my baseball skills.”

Gilmore was named by ESPN as one of Wyoming’s 20 top baseball players earlier this month. Powell Pioneer teammate Josh Cragoe was also a part of that list.
