(May 28, 1957 - April 2, 2012)
George Keyser Alston Jr. died unexpectedly on April 2, 2012. He was 54.
He was born on May 28, 1957, in Denver, Colo. He was known to everyone as Ky.
Ky grew up in Littleton, Colo., and graduated from Littleton High School in 1975. During high school, Ky worked with his dad in the family business of manufacturing cultured marble and learned many mechanical feats, which led him to the University of Wyoming to pursue an engineering degree. While at college, Ky’s family moved from Littleton to Frannie, in 1976.
Ky began working at Elk Basin in the oil and gas field around 1980. During the more than 24 years that he worked for Amoco/BP, Ky was inspired to learn more. Upon transferring to Evanston, Ky worked the Painter Plant start-up and continued in operations there until joining the engineering group.
During his time at Amoco/BP he also worked on the Peer Grievance Committee, spent three years building a process simulator of the plant, and was instrumental in adding LNG processing at the Painter and Anschutz plants. His passion for learning and sharing his knowledge with others grew into a career which led him to take a new job with John M. Campbell & Co. in Norman, Okla., in 2005.
Ky’s job with JMC allowed him to travel the U.S. and the world while teaching customized gas processing and process simulations, doing consulting work in process simulation, plant upgrades and system evaluation during process upsets.
Ky’s personal interests included all things sports, especially Pittsburgh teams, the Oklahoma City Thunder, Oklahoma State University football and NASCAR. He also enjoyed golf, fly fishing, hunting and camping.
Ky met his wife, Lisa, on a blind date on Jan. 5, 1988. They were married on July 19, 1988, in Powell, also accepting Lisa’s 2 1/2 year old son, Jacob, as part of the new family. Over the years of making their home in Evanston and later in Oklahoma City, Ky and Lisa took in nearly 50 foster kids.
He was active in many church activities and loved ministering to everyone he met. Volunteering at a coffee shop in Oklahoma City had been his most recent ministry.
His family takes comfort in knowing Ky is with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a 22-year walk with Him here on earth.
He was preceded in death by his father George Alston Sr.
In addition to his wife, Lisa, Ky is survived by his son, Jacob and granddaughters Dakota and Shaylee; his daughter, Lacey and grandson Tavin; his son, Judah; and an adopted daughter, Hannah Warren; his mother Jo Alston of Frannie; sisters Kendy (John) Richards of Cowley, and Kymbre (Tony) Moorehead of Frannie; nieces Kabre Richards of Redmond, Wash., and Jaimie Richards of Reno, Nev.; and nephews Race and Riley Moorehead of Frannie.
Memorial services have been held.
