Healthy Park County is providing local middle and high school parents and guardians with a free copy of “The Parent Handbook” by Operation Parent. This resource will be sent via mail and help raise awareness about the many issues teens and pre-teens face today.
“The Parent Handbook” includes information about the latest trends, warning signs and misconceptions when dealing with tough parenting scenarios, and provides tips and advice on how to handle them. This booklet also deals with topics like social media usage, screen time, dating, vaping, anxiety, bullying and more.
On Operation Parent’s website, founder and president, Jean Schumm, discusses her organization’s goal to raise awareness about the challenges teens and pre-teens face, and provide education on how to grow as a parent.
“Remember that you’re not simply raising a child — you’re raising an adult,” Operation Parent’s website states. “Now is the time to teach them to be accountable, dependable and responsible.”
Since forming in 2001, Healthy Park County says it’s been successful in bringing various health and wellness issues to light within the community by providing educational gatherings and resources, such as this handbook.
