Powell Valley Healthcare’s women’s health providers are again offering free clinical breast exams in October.
The goal of the program is to reach women who don’t have a primary care provider or who have not had a recent clinical breast exam. Women can simply call the clinic at 307-754-7770 to schedule a free exam on any Thursday of the month. Resources are also available to help women obtain a screening mammogram if they don’t have insurance or if their insurance doesn’t cover these screenings. Patients can also talk to a provider about the programs available to help cover mammogram screenings.
According to Breastcancer.org, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among women in the U.S. Around 16% of women with breast cancer are younger than age 50. And about 66% of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage — before the cancer has spread outside the breast. For more facts and statistics about breast cancer, visit breastcancer.org/facts statistics.
The PVHC providers who will provide the free clinical breast exams include Ashley Engesser, CNM; Jourdan Wichman, CNM; Dr. Jenkins Clarkson (OB/GYN), all located at Powell Valley Clinic, Building C; and Dr. Brittany Christensen (Internal Medicine), located in the main clinic building. For questions about mammography, or to schedule a screening mammogram, call PVHC Imaging at 307-754-1220.
