A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11 at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell for long-time Powell resident Francis Jacob Smith, 94, who died Saturday, July 5 at the Loveland Good Samaritan Village in Loveland, Colo., where he lived for the last two and a half years.
Mr. Smith was born March 29, 1909, in Pesotum, Ill., son of Frank Smith and Anna (Best) Smith. He married Helen M. Olson on March 8, 1938, in Billings, Mont. She died in November of 2001.
He graduated from College High School in Greeley, Colo., in 1929 and worked for Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. in Elk Basin, north of Powell, for 38 years. Powell was his home for 57 years.
He was a member of the Elks Club for 70 years and was the president of the Wyoming State Elks Association in 1967.
He was an avid gardener and loved yard work. He also loved to travel.
Survivors include two sons, Stan Smith of Odessa, Texas, and Sid Smith of Thorton, Colo.; a daughter, Dianne Brady of Chesterbrook, Pa.; a brother, Wallace Smith, of Rogers, Ariz.; two sisters, Bertha Hopkin of Casper and Monica Mossberg of Greeley; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
