Francis Clyde Sell, 90, died on Feb. 25, 2012 of pneumonia at the Mesa Manor in Grand Junction, Colo.
Clyde was born in Hobson, Mont., in 1922 to Hulda Pavey and Curtis Sell. They moved to Meeteetse, where he and his brothers Leonard Paul, Theodore Marion and Robert Darcy grew up. Their father left them when they were young and his mother did many odd jobs to care for them. Clyde played basketball and often said if it hadn’t been for that sport, he wouldn’t have gone to school. He joined the United States Marine Corps when he was young and served in Okinawa and the Philippines.
After he served he worked for PanAm Oil Company, Standard Oil and retired from Amoco Oil as field foreman.
He married Betty Jean Irvin in 1951 in Powell, and together they had one daughter, Jenean Paige and one son, Donald Wayne. They lived in Powell, Meeteetse and Worland. They later divorced and he remarried Jeannine Onstine Dellos and later divorced. He was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell, the Powell Country Club, the Elks, and the American Legion in Meeteetse. He loved collecting rocks and fossils and working with stone. He was a gardener and loved to walk the hills.
He is survived by his daughter, Jenean (Mike) Patrick of Tonganoxie, Kan.; son Don Sell of Clifton, Colo., and two stepsons, Robert and Dean Dellos.
He was preceded in death by his mother and brothers.
Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be placed at a later date in Wyoming. Memorial donations may be made to the Union Presbyterian Church in Powell or Alpine Hospice of Grand Junction, Colo., or any of your choice.
