The annual October Trick or Treat for Loaves and Fishes falls victim to COVID-19 concerns this year, but the community can still utilize receptacles at local supermarkets to donate food items to the food pantry.
For the first time in 33 years, the October food drive for Loaves and Fishes will not take place because of concerns that a door-to-door solicitation would put volunteers at risk. Receptacles at the local grocery stores offer another way for people to donate needed food to the pantry.
Food items are collected at the stores by volunteers and taken to the pantry in the county annex building at the north edge of town, said Julie Fulton, volunteer coordinator. Loaves and Fishes serves on average about 75 families per month.
Monetary donations may also be sent to Loaves and Fishes at P.O. Box 992, Powell, WY 82435. Cindy Balderas is treasurer. Other officers include BeeGee Coughenor, secretary; Jim Wysocki, Peggy Snyder and Sharon Bailey, food coordinators; and Vicki Blevins and Linda Fischer, board members.
