Scenes of patriotism swell in the breeze along Sheridan Avenue in downtown Cody thanks to the work of volunteers led by the Heritage Museum to plant hundreds of American flags around the museum, the county courthouse and along Sheridan Avenue at City Park.
“I really enjoy the American flags out in front of the courthouse,” Park County commissioner Dossie Overfield said Tuesday.
Commission Chair Scott Steward said there was a good turnout for the event over the weekend to celebrate the display of flags, made possible thanks to a grant from The Wyoming Semiquincentennial Planning Task Force’s Semiquincentennial Grant Program.
“We are thrilled to empower organizations and individuals committed to honoring this historic milestone,” said former Cody state Rep. Sandy Newsome, chairman of the task force, in an earlier release. “This is not just a celebration; it’s an opportunity for communities to come together, collaborate and preserve our shared history.”
Newsome was one of the speakers at the Fields of Honor ceremony, put together by the Heritage Museum’s Jenny Zink.
