Local first responders and wildlife officials are teaming up on Saturday to help families kick off the summer season safely.
The free Summer Safety Street Fair is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Powell Police Department on North Clark Street.
The event — which is focused on “safety, community and fun” — will feature a mix of interactive safety training, a “Touch a Truck” experience and a community barbecue.
At 9 a.m., Powell police will host a session on how to safely ride bicycles and increasingly popular e-bikes. Then at 10 a.m., cyclists are invited to participate in a controlled group ride from the police station to the Park County Fairgrounds and back.
Throughout the event, families will have the opportunity to explore various vehicles and equipment, including a fire truck, patrol vehicle and ambulance. Meanwhile, experts from Wyoming Game and Fish Department will offer tips on bear awareness, the proper use of bear spray, and water and river safety, while Powell Valley Healthcare EMS will offer “Stop the Bleed” training; the instruction will teach attendees tourniquet basics and how to control severe bleeding during an emergency.
A Powell Valley Healthcare-hosted hydration station will offer free water throughout Saturday’s event. A free lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks and cookies will be served while supplies last.
