Facts are important

Dear editor:

In response to the letter written by Marina Tucker in the July 14 Tribune we would like to help her set the record straight.

First off, we have met with Marina personally, spending close to an hour with her.  We found that her conservative values are in line with ours and Wyoming’s.

Marina references a previous letter written by Becket Hinckley, a disgraced former Wyoming attorney who no longer lives in this state. We are not even sure he has read the article he is referring to. Marina Horsting (at the time) wrote an article entitled “Case Notes” for inclusion in the Tulane Journal of Law & Sexuality. There are no opinions stated in the article, it is a well footnoted compilation of case law and subsequent analysis. This article was an assignment and written when she was a Juris Doctor candidate at Tulane. The document in question is in the public domain. Look it up, read it and make your own decision.

Scott Weber (June 30 letter to the editor) tries to endorse Erika Smith but quickly moves into a hit piece at the expense of candidate Tucker by referencing the article that Marina wrote, again making it seem like an opinion piece supporting the LGBT lifestyle. So, Mr. Weber, before smearing an individual publicly with minimal facts, your “Wyoming values” may bear close examination.

Do some research for yourself. Marina likes to meet people face to face but we are sure she would make time on the phone with anyone who called.

Also, there is a very nice article about Marina Tucker in the July 9 Cody Enterprise.  Read it, you will learn about her and find that she values the people of Wyoming and the values we have. Yes, she has had many nonWyoming collective experiences that have positively shaped her way of thinking. In our opinion that is a plus because she had a chance to compare the values and mores of many people. (mores — pronounced “mor-ays,” meaning the fixed and morally binding customs of a group, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

We like her and we’re going to vote for her.

Sincerely,

Linda and Bob Graff
