Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 3 for former Powell High School teacher, Evelyn L. Petty, 80, who died Wednesday, Nov. 30 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty, Mo.

She was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Liberty, Mo., daughter of Irwin and Bert Munkirs Petty. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from William Jewell College in 1945 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

She began her high school teaching career in Kansas. Later, she taught in Wyoming at Jackson and then in Powell where she taught for 34 years. She retired in 1990 and returned to the family farm where she was born.

She had a love for learning and spent many hours at the Clay County Archives and Historical Library where she was a member.

Miss Petty was a member of the Wyoming Education Association and the Mt. Olivet Christian Church.

She is survived by a brother, Harold Petty of the family home.
