Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 17 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Worland for Esther Ruth Guzman, 54-year-old Powell resident, who died at Billings Deaconess Clinic on Friday, Aug. 12 after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 27, 1950, in Powell, a daughter of Jose A. and Ann (Gonzales) Ramirez. The family moved to Worland in 1963 where Esther received her education. She graduated from Worland High School in 1970. She went to work as a teacher’s aide with Absaroka Head Start where she worked until 1978. She was married to Jesus Guzman in Worland on Feb. 10, 1978.
They moved to Orange Cove, Calif., where she received her CNA license. In 1980 the family moved to Corpus Christy Texas, where Esther worked as a teacher’s aide.
In 2002 she was divorced, and in 2004 she moved to Worland where she was employed as a teacher’s aide at Worland High School. In April of 2005 she moved to Powell where she took a position with NOWCAP. Esther loved working with children in the schools. She could be found attending her nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events and spending time with her children.
She is preceded in death by her father Jose; and two brothers, Alfred and Jose, Jr.
She is survived by her mother, Ann Ramirez of Worland; sons, Jesus Guzman Jr. and Jose Guzman, both of Worland; daughter, Cristina of Powell; brother John (Teresa) Ramirez of Rockfield, Ill.; and sisters, Rachel (Joaquin) Garcia of Lavonia, Texas, Barbara Monrroy and Diana (Florencio) Deniz, all of Worland.
Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Esther’s name and sent to Bryant Funeral Home, PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.
