Elaine Marie Schulze died March 31, 2011. She was 84.
Elaine was born July 6, 1926, in Elwood, Neb., to Walter and Matilda (Riedel) Heny. Her family lived in Elwood and Gurley areas until moving to Powell.
Elaine graduated from Powell High School, and after graduation, she went to live Portland, Ore., where she worked as a telegraph operator for Western Union. She returned to Nebraska and attended Concordia Teacher’s College in Seward, where she received her teaching certification.
Elaine taught for one year in Deshler. On Aug. 19, 1951, Elaine married Lavern H. Schulze in Powell. They lived and farmed near Hordville. Elaine was a homemaker and worked as a substitute teacher.
Lavern died on June 14, 1995. Elaine continued to live on the farm until 2005, when she moved to Central City to live at Merrick Manor. In April 2008, she went to live in Columbus and had been in David City since October 2010.
She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, quilting and birds.
Elaine was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Joanne in 1956; and sister, Imogene Heny.
She is survived by her children, Kelvin and Rhonda Schulze of Hordville, Janis and Brad Luebe of Linwood, Denise and Kent Christensen of Garland, and Jerold Schulze of Hordville; three grandchildren, Jared and Alicia Schulze and their son Braxton, Valerie Schulze and Todd Schulze; two brothers, Richard Heny and Myron (Dee) Heny, both of Powell; two sisters-in-law, Dolores Schulze of Des Moines, Iowa and Annette Schulze of Central City; and one brother-in-law, Ervin and Diana Schulze of Hampton.
Funeral services took place on April 2 in Polk, Neb. Interment followed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Polk.
Solt Funeral Home in Central City, Neb. assisted the family with arrangements.
