In a shortened version of the Powell Middle School Invite on Saturday, the eighth grade Cubs tied for the team title and the seventh grade Cubs were seventh, as only track events were run at the annual event.
Leading the way for the eighth grade girls was Maci MaGill, who was the Cubs’ only two-event winner as she won the 100 meter dash in 13.64 seconds and the 200 meters in 28.19 seconds, while Aubree Kraft was the other individual winner taking the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 31.1 seconds.
Second place finishes helped the Cubs plenty, as Autumn Kleinfeldt took second in the 100 meters (13.96) and the 400 meters (1:06.15), while Kraft was also second in the 1600 meters (5:45.09).
The top relay for the eighth graders was the 800 sprint medley as the team of Kleinfeldt, Kimber Allan, MaGill and Kraft were second with a time of 2:00.26.
Additional individual top eight finishes included Allan, who was fifth in the 100 meters (14.66) and the 200 meters (30.24); Karen Richmond placed sixth in the 400 meters (1:11.22); Lilly Esparza was eighth in the 400 meters (1:16.98); Sophie Villanueva placed eighth in the 800 meters (2:55.83) and Finley Franklin was eighth in the 100 meter hurdles (19.43).
The Cubs scored 86 points as a team, despite no field events, tying with Cody with 86 points for the team title as both teams were 18 points ahead of the Sheridan ‘A’ team in third place.
The highest placement for the seventh grade girls came from Jade Miller, who took second in the 200 meters with a time of 29.5.
Tenley Shorb was the other Cub to place individually in the top eight, as she took sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:58.09.
The 4x100 relay team of Marli Allen, Nylea Paul, Lily Lennon and Maryssa Giltner were the other points earners for the Cubs as they were fifth with a time of 1:03.11.
Overall the seventh grade Cubs scored 15 points in the team standings to take seventh, as the Cody girls ran away with the title with 112 points, 47 ahead of second placed Worland.
Powell Middle School heads on the road for the remainder of the season, starting with a meet in Lovell on Friday with the conference meet next weekend in Worland.
