(November 5, 1931 - October 20, 2009)Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend! Dorothy, or Sahli as a lot of people called her, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Powell Valley Care Center.Dorothy was born to William and Meta Muller on Nov. 5, 1931 in St. Albans, N.Y. She was an only child, but grew up with a household of relatives, including a cousin who was just a few months older.Dorothy grew up in New York and, after finishing high school, moved to California to finish her nurses training and receive her R.N. degree. While in California, she met the love of her life, Paul Sahli, at a ballroom dance. They were married on De. 28, 1954 and had three sons and one daughter. Dorothy and Paul loved taking care of their home where they lived for 50 years. She loved gardening and, on several occasions, they won “Most Beautiful Home” for the city they lived in. Dorothy and Paul were very involved with their church/school, St. Paul's Lutheran, where Dorothy served as the nurse for the school when the children needed their immunizations. Dorothy also taught English classes to the Vietnamese congregation of the church. But what brought the most joy to her life was her family, who she adored! She loved cooking and baking, and there was always plenty of home cooking for the whole family whenever they all came over, which was quite often. Their home was always full of love and a lot of laughter. Dorothy loved walking and was an avid reader who loved reading with the grandkids, too. Dorothy worked full time as a registered nurse for more than 30 years, always dressed in her white dress uniform with white stockings and cap. On several occasions she won “Nurse of the Year” and “Employee of the Month.”Dorothy was a very warm, loving, sweet person who had a beautiful smile and loved talking with people and hearing about their stories. She and her husband, Paul, had a very beautiful life together and were the “true love story” if there ever was one! Dorothy and Paul moved to Powell in 2005 when her health began to fail so they could be near their daughter and younger grandkids. She moved into the Powell Valley Care Center in 2006, and Paul was always by her side, day in and day out, until his death in September 2009. No longer apart, the Lord called her home, and once again she and Paul are together.Dorothy is survived by her children Andy Sahli (Joy) and Craig Sahli, both of California, and Barbara Meredith (Brad) of Powell; and seven grandchildren, Alison, Erica, Lauren, Bryce and Shea, all of California, and Jessica and Zachary of Powell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; son Roger Sahli; and her parents. Cremation and a family ceremony have taken place.
