(June 22, 2008)
Dorothy Myrle Spens was born Sept. 4, 1927 in Greybull. She was the third child of Nathaniel (Than) B. and Mildred June (Cauffman) Spens. Her childhood was spent in Burlington where she attended elementary through high school, graduating with the class of 1945. Dorothy, 80, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008.
A special love for animals began as a child and she said cats were “nicer than lots of people.” Dorothy spent a lot of time tending to her yard and flowers and even more time caring for her family. Dorothy enjoyed her home. She lived her entire life in just two homes — her parents’ home just at the top of Burlington Hill, and the home she and her husband lived in after their marriage.
Dorothy married Arlan Eyre Preator on September 21, 1945, in Red Lodge. They were blessed with four children and were married for 62 years. Dorothy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She had a dry wit and a wonderful sense of humor that made her a favorite in the community and with her family. There was no place more welcoming and fun to visit.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Arlan Preator; sons, Mike (Karen) Preator, Adrian (Carrie) Preator and Lynn (Deniece) Preator; daughter, Karen Bertsch; sister Carma (Glen) Cederholm; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Nathaniel (Than) and Mildred Spens; and brother, Charles Wayne Spens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Burlington LDS Chapel.
