‘Day of the Dead’ artists’ studio tour on Saturday

The Park County Arts Council will host a fun-filled celebration of Dia de los Muertos this weekend.

On Saturday, the Day of the Dead Studio Tour will feature many of the talented artists in the area.

With the purchase of a “ticket” — which will be a trick or treat bag and map of studio locations — tour-goers can visit any or all of the artists’ studios where they will receive an “art treat” and view the artwork displayed or in progress, and learn about this individual and their art.

This year’s tour features the studios and works of both Cody and Powell artists. Tours of the Cody studios will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while Powell tours will follow from 1-4 p.m.

Cody artists include Mark Kronfuss and Stephanie Manuel with their finely crafted ceramicware, John Giarrizzo’s new explorations in drawing and painting, Brian Timmer’s landscapes and abstracts, and the beautiful, functional Western designs by many skilled artisans featured at By Western Hands.

In Powell, you will have the opportunity to view the animals and scenes of the wild by Maggie Bassett at The Wild Paintbrush Studio, Marc Harrison’s painted miniature board game figures (The Painted Dwarf), contemporary furniture created by Scott Armstrong at Arrowleaf Studio, and Martin Garhart’s figurative and landscape drawings and paintings.

The tour wraps with a lively reception from 4-6 p.m. at Gestalt Studios in Powell, where artists Alleigh Richardson, Alethea Durney, Calli Nissen, Ken Borcher and Bobbie Brown will display their work or be at work on pieces in progress. In addition, refreshments will be provided, as well as an opportunity to play board games, courtesy of The Painted Dwarf. There also will be stations to create some “Day of the Dead” artwork of your own and a door prize drawing.

Advance tickets are available at the Cody and Powell chambers of commerce or Gestalt Studios for $20 (adults) or $5 (children and students through college). Tickets on the day of the tour may be purchased at any of the artists’ studios for $25 (adults) and $5 (children/students).
