Darwin L. Hackworth, 40, of Powell died Saturday, Aug. 6, from injuries suffered in a horseback riding accident in the Cloud Peak Wilderness of the Bighorn Mountains. Memorial services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 777 E. Seventh St. in Powell.

He was born May 6, 1965, in Findlay, Ohio, the son of Virginia and Payne Hackworth. He grew up in Vanlue, Ohio, and graduated from Vanlue High School in 1983. On May 17, 1986, he married Jill Krauss in Findlay. He belonged to Sager Masonic Lodge 513 in Lafayette, Ohio, and was a past master of the lodge.

In August 1997, Dar moved with his family to Powell, where he became a lineman with Garland Light and Power Co. He became superintendent in 2000. He had been interested in music since he was young and became a talented musician, playing banjo and guitar with the bluegrass Gospel band, "Witness." He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God and loved sharing his love for Jesus with his church family and the community through music. Dar loved spending time with family and friends and his time in the mountains, hunting, fishing and riding horses. Most of all, he loved Jesus and his family is comforted by knowing he is with him. Dar loved his job and his co-workers and will be greatly missed by his wife and children.

He is survived by his wife, Jill; sons Jacob D. Hackworth and Reed J. Hackworth and daughter Haley M. Hackworth of the family home in Powell; his parents and three brothers, Duane, Dwight and Nathan.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his fraternal grandfather.

Dar wished to be cremated with his ashes spread over Belknap Plateau on Carter Mountain. Memorial gifts may be given to Glad Tidings Assembly of God or the Dar Hackworth Memorial Fund at First National Bank and Trust, which will be used for college expenses for the Hackworth children.
