Darold Raymond Hawley

Darold Raymond Hawley died at the Powell Valley Care Center at the age of 80.

Darold was born on a farm near Armour, S.D. on Aug. 30, 1930, son of Virgle and Hazel (Connelly) Hawley.

He attended country school and graduated from Armour High School. He married Norma Harrington on Aug. 20, 1950, in Wagner. They had five children: Derla, DeNiel, Dianne, Douglas and Dawn.

He worked on the Fort Randall Dam, later started a trucking business and in 1959 he and his family moved to Casper. He worked for the Fuller Brush Co. for several years. In the early 1970s he went to work as an insurance salesman. He was named Salesman of the Year and received numerous awards during his insurance career. In 1979 Darold, Norma and son, Doug, moved to Armour, SD. They owned/operated a restaurant/bowling alley known as the Hawley Day Inn. In 1998 they retired and moved to Powell.

Darold was a member of the Methodist church and a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Casper. He was at peace with the Lord.

He was an avid hunter, loving the sport in Wyoming and South Dakota. He taught his son and daughter Dianne to love this sport and took all of his kids hunting at different times throughout their young lives. He loved to tell hunting stories, loved to tease, and will be remembered for his love of his family. He also taught and coached little league baseball. The impact Darold had on his daughters and son and their families is immeasurable, he was blessed with great love and surrounded by a wonderful extended family.

Darold is survived by his daughters: Derla McIntosh (Dane) of Powell; DeNiel Irwin (John) of Phoenix, Ariz.; Dianne Fox of Rapid City, S.D.; Dawn Harbison (Jack) of Gillette; son Douglas Hawley (Kathy) of Littleton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ardell Hawley (Evelyn), Seattle, Wash.

Darold was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Dean Hawley, and his loving wife Norma of 59 years.

Services were held Monday, March 14 at the Koehn Funeral Home in Armour, S.D.

Interment was at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour. A celebration of life followed at the Blue Moon in Armour.
