Darlynd Duane Ellinwood, 73, of Napoleon, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at Henry County Hospital in Napoleon.

Darlynd was born Aug. 30, 1936, in Henry County to Edward and Addie (Babcock) Ellinwood.

A 1955 graduate of Liberty Center High School, Darlynd was a longtime Henry County farmer, and he also spent time working for the S.E. Johnson Corporation in Maumee, Ohio. He married Karen S. Sayles on June 14, 1959, in Laramie.

Darlynd was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Chrusch and Elks Lodge No. 929, both in Napoleon, and the Farm Bureau.

He loved animals, especially horses, and was a former member of the U.S. Trotting Association and the Ohio Harness Horsemen Association. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, locating and collecting Indian artifacts and target shooting. He will be remembered as a “character” for his quick-witted sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Napoleon; two sons, Darrel Ellinwood (Lydia) of Liberty Center, Ohio, and Daniel Ellinwood of Whitehouse, Ohio; daughter Shelley Mazur (Thomas) of Lima, Ohio; his sister, Donelda Overmier of Napoleon; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Naida Hefflinger.

It was Darlynd’s wish to be buried in a place he dearly loved, Meeteetse Cemetery. Private interment will take place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests that memorials in Darlynd’s name be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Meeteetse.

Ballard Funeral Home in Cody is handling arrangements.
