Dan A. (Red) Heimer Sr., 91, a lifelong resident of Powell, died at his home on Thursday, Oct. 15.
He was born in Powell on May 5, 1911, the third of eight children born to Alva Harry and Leah Mae Heimer.
He met and married Anita Watts while working at the Powell Bean Miller in 1936.
He worked in construction, specializing in concrete finishing. During his working career, he helped build many buildings and homes, including his own in Powell. In later years, he worked with his brother, Lloyd Heimer, in laying rock fireplaces and other rock work in Powell.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren. He liked having his family close to him.
Survivors include three daughters, all of Powell: Charlotte Berryman and husband Bill, Jeanette Sump and husband Ron and Jo Ann Heimer; one son of Powell, Dan Heimer Jr.; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd and Willard Heimer, both of Powell; three sisters, Winnie Clark, Mae Eaton and Nonnie Robbins, all of Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anita and two sisters, Ada Jinks and Alma Bunn.
Cremation has taken place. A brief memorial service will be held at the Crown Hill Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19.
