Three Powell High School boys’ soccer players earned postseason honors following the spring season, as sophomore Gianreye D’Alessandro was named All-State while seniors Ethan Frame and Owen Hill earned 3A West All-Conference honors.

ALL-STATE SELECTION

Leading the front line this season for the Panthers was D’Alessandro, who made his way back from a difficult injury a year ago that kept him from playing until late in the season.

He said recovering from that injury mainly came through a lot of individual work in the offseason to be prepared for this year.

“I think what really helped to come back from last year’s injury was all the travel soccer and individual work I did during the summer and fall seasons which helped me get back to 100% before the high school season,” D’Alessandro said.

Throughout the year D’Alessandro finished with a dozen goals for the Panthers to lead the team, including several decisive goals in their wins.

“It was really cool being named All-State as a sophomore just because I know how hard it is to do at any age, so I was really proud of myself for having a good enough season to earn it as a sophomore,” he said.

D’Alessandro noted that the Panthers continued to grow throughout the season despite being a young team this year, and said they owed that to the older players on the team helping the younger ones along with a lot of hard work.

“I think a lot of the improvement through the season came from the coaching and also from the leadership our seniors provided, cause obviously it’s tough having a team with such little varsity experience going up against teams with a lot of it,” D’Alessandro said. “But I think the hard work from a bunch of the kids and also patience from the coaches really helped.”

Individually moving forward, he said he knows there will be a challenge to maintain this level of consistency.

“The key to being named All-State again next year is gonna be working in the offseason because obviously it’s not going to get easier next season and I can’t just expect to be given things without putting in work during the offseason,” D’Alessandro said.

He said he was really proud of the team and the season they had, and was grateful to his parents for all the years of travel and money spent for club soccer.

ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

In addition to D’Alessandro, both Frame and Hill earned their first postseason honors after being named to the 3A West All-Conference team.

Frame earned the selection as a forward while also filling in as an outside back at times, as he scored four goals this year.

Hill served as a center back as well as defensive midfielder at times, scoring one goal in a game against Lyman late in the year.

“I thought it was really cool that Owen and Ethan both got All-Conference because they both really deserved it, and without them our team wouldn’t have been near the level we were,” D’Alessandro said. “I was also very grateful for them as leaders and teammates.”

Following this year the Panthers return a lot of players next season, and D’Alessandro said he believes a lot of work this offseason can help the team take a big step forward next year.

“The biggest thing for helping the team improve for next year is gonna be helping all the younger kids get touches with the ball during the summer and fall so that come spring time we can focus on more technical things to be as good as we can,” he said. “It’s really nice already seeing people going to the high school in their free time to get better for next year.”
