Funeral services were held at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody Monday, Dec. 5 for Curtis Buckingham, 93, Cody, who died Thursday, Dec. 1 at the Powell Hospital after a short illness.

He was born June 22, 1912, at the Buckingham Ranch on Bear Creek near Story, Wyo. He was the son of Joseph and Mabel (Todd) Buckingham.

He graduated from Buffalo High School and spent his early years in the Story-Buffalo areas. In Story, he met Claudine Mitchum, a school teacher, and they were married in Hardin, Mont., on Jan. 7, 1939.

Curtis worked at various ranches in the Buffalo, Sheridan, Glenrock and Cody areas. In November, 1957, he and Claudine bought the D&C Service Station with their good friends, Dick and Pat Way. They operated the Texaco station until Curtis retired in June of 1976. Many friendships were formed while the Buckinghams and the Ways operated the D&C Texaco Station.

After retirement, he took up the game of golf and enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He also enjoyed the afternoon card games at the Elks Club.

His grandsons, Jeff and Scott, were the joy of his life. He taught them to play cribbage and loved to hunt and fish with them. He was a life member of the Cody Elks.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Judi Buckingham of Powell; two grandsons, Jeff (Tami) Buckingham of Boise, Idaho, and Scott Buckingham of Casper; his sister, Della McLaughlin of Texas; a special niece, Janice Kraft of Powell; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Caludine, in December of 1999; brothers Frederic, Milo and Mervin Buckingham; and a sister, Gyla Buckingham.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Dano Camp, 260 Lane 10, Powell, WY 82435, or a charity of choice.
