Warm weather broke through and led to strong performances for the Powell Middle School girls’ track and field team, as the eighth grade girls won by 133 points and the seventh grade girls earned a seven point win as the two combined for 16 event wins.

“We are incredibly proud of how the girls competed this last weekend,” coach Amanda Haney said. “Winning 16 events is no small feat, it is a testament to how hard these athletes are working.”

Ten of those wins came from the eighth grade girls, with eight of those being individual wins.

Lucy Ostermiller earned two wins, taking first in the 100 meter dash in 13.96 seconds and first in the long jump leaping 15 feet, 5 inches.

Kara Sanders was the other Cub to win two events, winning the 400 meters in 1 minute, 4.83 seconds, and the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet, 5 inches.

Addie Gillett took the top spot in the 200 meters (30.12), Anyston Keller won the 1600 meters (5:48.18), Keylyn Knuth won the high jump (4-7) and Meredyth Giltner won the shot put (25-3 1/2).

The eighth grade girls also earned two relay wins, as the team of Knuth, Anh Trinh, Gillett and Ostermiller won the 4x100 (56.76) and the 4x400 team of Lynea Christensen, Sanders, Keller and Kaytlee George won with a time of 4:43.88.

The one relay win came in the 4x100 with the team of Teagan Gillett, Allan, Kleinfeldt and MaGill winning in 56.86 seconds.

There were plenty of other top three finishes for the Cubs, as Aubree Kraft took second in the 400 meters (1:05.37) and third in the 800 meters (2:36.3); Finley Franklin took second in high jump (4-4); Kleinfeldt took second in the pole vault (7-0) and third in the triple jump (27-6); MaGill took second in the triple jump (28-1 1/2); Allan took third in the 200 meters (30.24); Ryleigh Hutzenbieler took third in the high jump (4-2) and Muecke took third in the shot put (23-0 1/2).

The team competition was closer for the seventh grade team, as the Cubs earned 146 points, seven ahead of Cody.

“This success has energized both teams and built strong momentum heading into the final stretch of the season,” Haney said. “With growing confidence and consistent results, the future looks bright for the girls’ program.”

The Cubs head to Lovell on Saturday for their final regular season meet.

“The focus is on sharpening technique, maintaining consistency and strategically maxing out athlete entries to prepare for optimal placement at the upcoming conference meet (next week),” Haney said. “This meet gives us a final chance to evaluate and position athletes where they will help the team most at conference.”
