Dear editor:
In response to Mr. Larry French’s letter in the Jan. 28 Powell Tribune, I want to say that I think the Park County commissioner’s decision to let a judge decide on the new county assessor is reasonable, although perhaps not ideal, given the miscount in voting by the Park County GOP Central Committee. I commend Chairman Martin Kimmet for bringing this to the attention of the commissioners, and for admitting to other inconsistencies in the process (see commissioner’s meeting minutes in the same edition).
I do think Mr. French did bring up a point, though probably not the one he intended. This is a perfect reason why we should NOT be hand counting ballots as apparently the central committee couldn’t even accurately hand count less than 100 ballots for this one open position, for if they had, this whole controversy would not be happening.
Sincerely,
Bruce Morse
