CodyArts has unveiled its newest crop of award winners for the 61st Annual Community Art Show and Sale.
Brandon Undeberg, Cody High School’s art teacher, was the judge this year and he had his work cut out for him. In all, 293 new pieces of artwork were submitted for the show — from amateur to professional and including 23 youth entries.
“There is incredible talent on display this year, and the task of judging was especially difficult because of the overall quality of the work,” Undeberg said, adding, “A strong composition is what initially draws me into a piece and helps it move through the first layer of judging. From there, I begin evaluating the foundational artistic skills — proportions, values, textures, color theory, and the effective use of the elements and principles of design.”
Ultimately, he was able to define first, second and numerous honorable mentions in 26 different categories between youth, amateur and professional as well as Best of Show.
CodyArts, thanks to many generous sponsors, awarded close to $9,000 in cash prizes to winners this year.
“This was my seventh year putting on this show and it really is one of the best,” gallery Director Rene’ Huge said. “Our community showed up for this community event — the artists — kids and adults, the sponsors and then the appreciators and supporters. The support for our creative friends and neighbors was in full force and it was very evident at our opening reception and award ceremony.”
The show will hang until Wednesday, June 10.
