Nina Webber of Cody has been tabbed as the Wyoming Republican Party’s next national committeewoman.
Members of the GOP’s State Central Committee elected Webber to the position during a Nov. 13 meeting in Buffalo, choosing her over Patricia Junek of Gillette in a 37-34 vote.
Both candidates gave opening statements in which they pledged their agreement with the Wyoming and Republican National Committee platforms, according to a release from the state party.
Webber previously served as the Hot Springs County Clerk and challenged State House District 24 Rep. Sandy Newsome, R-Cody, in the 2020 Republican primary, ultimately losing by about 15 percentage points. Webber is an active member of the Park County Republican Party.
The state party position had been vacant since September, when the prior national committeewoman, Harriet Hageman, resigned to run for the U.S. House of Representatives against incumbent Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.
Webber will serve as the Wyoming GOP’s national committeewoman until May 2022. At that time, the party will hold another election and choose a Republican woman to serve the remainding two years of Hageman’s term.
