Cody group to present ‘Springtime on Mars’ in virtual performance

Posted

On Saturday, the youth of Studio Theatre at the Cody Center for the Performing Arts will present the world premier of Springtime on Mars by Bethany Hamilton Sandvik.

The show, which was to premier in March of 2020, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the show must go on, and so Springtime on Mars will be presented virtually via Crowdcast at 3 p.m. Registration is free with donations encouraged.

Springtime on Mars takes place in the year 2050. There is a functioning Earth colony on Mars but still no signs of life ... or are there? When curious siblings head out on an adventure, they are surprised at what they find. The studio describes it as “a play that is out of this world and celebrates curiosity,  discovery, friendship and robots.”

“The kids were so disappointed that we didn’t get to perform this play last March” said Sandvik, the studio theater director. “I am beyond thrilled that with some minor adjustments and our streaming technology, we can present the play not just for parents but to audiences all over.”

This is Studio Theatre at CCPA’s second virtual production of 2021. The theater will present monthly offerings via livestream throughout the year.

Springtime on Mars features Jolene Anderson, Jaida  Brice, Coulter Christofferson, Andrea Eckley, Lena Hennings, Cole McLeod, Stanley McKenzie, Deacon and Ember Poley, Iggy and Paloma Russell, Beatrice Sandvik and Mia and Rose Whelan.

Springtime on Mars will also be available to view on demand following the live performance. Register for the event at www.studiotheatreccpa.org/streaming.

Studio Theatre at CCPA is located in the Cody Center for the Performing Arts at 1527 18th St., Cody, and is the only professional, black-box theater in the Big Horn Basin. Studio Theatre strives “to create and present work that highlights significant historical and social issues, empowers women and fosters creativity in all ages.”
