Clark community fundraiser shows recipe for success

A group of Clark women who decided to cook up a tasty fundraiser found a successful combination of ingredients that will benefit the Clark Pioneer Recreation Center and the Clark Volunteer Fire Department.

Held on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Rec, the event offered either meals of pit barbecued chicken or ribs with baked potato, baked beans and dessert.  Clarkites didn’t just show up — they brought appetites to support the effort.

“We served 143 meals; folks either stayed and ate or took the food to go,” said  Becky Reisinger, who cooked up the idea. “As an outreach, we also delivered meals for free to homebound folks that had signed up prior.”

She said she and four others — Kathy Carter, Kristen Knopp, Janet Kelleher and Wendy Epstein — “all worked together” because of their love for Clark. “We wanted to do something for our community, so we divided up the tasks needed and off we went,” she said.

Reisinger added, “We received many outright donations in addition to the meal tickets. We have a few donations still coming in, but we are anticipating a significant donation to each entity. We will present the checks to the Rec Center and CVFD at their December meetings. We are so grateful to live in a community that shows up and supports one another.”

Prior to the meal there was a pie contest sponsored by Rock Creek Ranch. Categories were appearance and taste. There were two anonymous judges, one from the Rec and one from CVFD. For the kids, Cody Woolard set up his bounce house and obstacle course. Children could also color an activity book or paint a pumpkin.

Pie winners for Best Appearance were Sherri Cooley, in first, and Maria Sullivan in second. Best Taste winners were Kathy Carter, first, and Charla Gerbig, second. There were cash prizes for each.

In conclusion, Reisinger expressed appreciation “to everyone who baked, entered, volunteered, donated and came out to support our community. Your time, talent and generosity help make events like this possible.”

A major sponsor, she said, was the Cody Albertsons, as “They were incredibly generous on purchasing all of the food for cooking.” Other event sponsors were Edelweiss Riverhouse, Gallagher Ranch, Cody Woolard and Rock Creek Ranch.
