Smith, 87, who died peacefully at her home in Powell on Sunday, Nov. 21, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26 at St. Barbara's Catholic Church.Father Pete Johnson will officiate at services and burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation and rosary are set Thursday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home.She was born Claire M. Nielsen on March 16, 1917, in Powell to homesteaders Niels and Emma Nielsen. She graduated from Powell High School and married Gerald L. Smith in Powell in 1935.She was very talented in porcelain dollmaking, china painting, quilting, rug hooking and many other aspects of handwork. Working in her flower garden was a favorite pastime.She was an active member of the Council of Catholic Women and the Business and Professional Women's organization and worked at the ASCS office in Powell for 30 years. She served as a Silver Haired Legislator for several years.Survivors include her brother, Norman Nielsen of Ralston; sisters Elsie Hawley and Edna Caslick, both of Powell, and Emma Morris of Bellevue, Wash.; and nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.For those who wish, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Barbara's Church or a charity of choice.
