An upcoming fundraiser for local law enforcement got a modest boost from the Powell City Council last week.

Celebrities for a Cause — a Cody-based nonprofit that raises funds for local causes — is hosting a softball tournament at Homesteader Park next month and the council agreed to waive the city’s typical $300 rental fee for the April 25-26 event.

The Snowball Softball Tournament is just one of several fundraising events being organized by Celebrities for a Cause this year. Things will culminate on Aug. 6-9, when the nonprofit will host a gaggle of celebrities in Cody for an evening at the Cody Nite Rodeo, a golf tournament at the Olive Glenn and Powell golf clubs, a banquet dinner and a softball game.

Among the slated attendees are former NFL players Steve Smith Sr., Jamal Lewis and Ryan Shazier, former MLB closers Kyle Farnsworth and Jason Isringhausen, “The Million Dollar Man” Teb Diniase from the WWE, plus reality TV participants like Andrei and Elizabeth Castravet from 90 Day Fiance, Chelsea Blackwell from Love is Blind and Benjamin “Coach” Wade from Survivor.

Three actors from the classic film "The Sandlot" — Marty York (Alan “Yeah Yeah” McClennan), Victor DiMattia (Timmy Timmons) and Shane Obedzinski (Tommy "Repeat" Timmons) — are also expected in Cody, with Big Horn Cinemas planning a special screening of the film.

Celebrities for a Cause picks a different beneficiary each year; in 2025, the funds assisted needy patients at the Big Horn Basin Cancer Center in Cody and went toward a college scholarship.

This year, all of the proceeds from the various events are being split equally between the Powell and Cody police departments, the Park County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Jeremy Love told the council.
