The competition for the Big Horn Rodeo circuit queen will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at the Cowley Rodeo grounds. Applications are due by Friday, March 19.
Contestants must be a minimum of 14 years old and cannot be married.
They will be judged on the ability to write thank you notes, how well they answer the judges’ questions on horse and rodeo knowledge and how well they perform a horsemanship pattern.
The circuit queen’s duties include appearing at four of 10 circuit rodeos and the winner is gifted with a belt buckle and other various horse-oriented prizes.
In a similar vein, the Cowley Riding Club will hold its rodeo royalty contest at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 10. That contest is broken into two categories: princesses age 8-14 years old and queens age 15-21 years old. The runners-up in each category are the royalty attendant and a prize is also awarded for best horsemanship and Miss Congeniality.
These contestants will also compete in a question and answer format as well as horsemanship.
Their duties include appearing at both Cowley rodeos and parades, as well as two other events of their choosing, usually nearby parades and/or rodeos.
For more information call Melissa Timpany at 307-272-7312 after 5 p.m. or Ashley Ganoung at 406-581-1154 or 307-254-9616.
