While today’s primary election is in the spotlight, some candidates are already looking to the general election in November.
For special districts — including the boards that oversee Park County School District No. 1, Northwest College, Powell Valley Healthcare, Powell Fire District No. 1 and Crown Hill Cemetery — candidates are only on the general election ballot. The filing period for special districts opened Aug. 5 and continues through Tuesday, Aug. 25.
On the Powell school board, three seats are available in 2020. Each of the three incumbents, Kimberly Condie, Kim Dillivan and Tracy Morris, have filed for re-election.
For the NWC Board of Trustees, one Powell seat, two Cody spots and one Meeteetse position will be decided in November. Powell incumbent Mark Wurzel filed for re-election, along with Cody incumbent Bob Newsome. Meeteetse trustee Larry Todd was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Nada Larsen, who resigned last month. Todd has filed for a four-year term on the board. Cody trustee Luke Anderson’s seat is also up for election.
Three seats are available on the Powell Hospital District Board, and incumbent Bonita Katz is seeking another four-year term. Larry Parker announced in June that he was retiring from his position, and Deb Kleinfeldt does not plan to seek another term. Robert D. “Bob” Graff filed to run for a seat on the board.
For the Powell Fire District, two seats are up for election in 2020. Incumbents Roger Easum and Scott Heny are each seeking another term.
For the Crown Hill Cemetery District in Powell, three seats — currently held by Ben Keller, Bill Metzler and Syd Thompson — are up for election. As of Monday, no one had filed for the board.
Three seats are also available on the Bennett Buttes Cemetery District Board in Clark. Rose Cox, Rick Gorniak and Jerry Ruth currently serve in the positions, and no one had filed for the seats as of Monday.
One position on the Clark Fire District — currently held by David Hoffert — will be on November’s ballot.
Candidates can file for special district positions at the Park County Courthouse in Cody. For more information, call 307-754-8620 or email voterinfo@parkcounty.us.
