The American Legion Department of Wyoming has announced the Wyoming Boys’ State 2026 session, which will be held June 7-13 at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The delegation consists of up to 100 of Wyoming’s top high school juniors who live in simulated cities, participate in legislative and court systems, and experience the election process. Attendance at Boys’ State weighs favorably on applications to many colleges, universities, and the military academies. It also offers scholarship opportunities.
Wyoming Boys’ State is held annually in June. It is a chance for high school juniors from across the state to participate in a week-long event gaining knowledge of their state and its governmental structure. Delegates learn how government works, experiencing what it takes to create and enact laws. The week emphasizes leadership, civic engagement and patriotism. Speakers at Boys’ State include Wyoming’s governor and members of Wyoming’s congressional delegation. In the process of working together, the delegates develop life-long friendships. The week culminates with a visit to the State Capitol in Cheyenne, where delegates occupy the House and Senate chambers, as well as the various offices and agencies of Wyoming’s government. Delegates will have the opportunity to meet the governor and many of his staff members in this full day of activities.
Although most delegates at Boys’ State are academically rated in the top 10% of their class, any boy who shows exceptional character and an interest in government may be considered a candidate, regardless of academic standing. Any junior boy who is in good standing at high school may apply.
