Boone and Crockett Club program Thursday

A talk this (Thursday) evening in Powell will cover the Boone and Crockett Club’s influence on western conservation.

The presentation, which is part of the Powell Valley Community Education program, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in Northwest College’s Fagerberg Building Room 70.

Park Ranger Todd Johnson from the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area will offer a look at the creation of the Boone and Crockett Club, the oldest wildlife conservation organization in North America. Johnson will also cover the personalities who helped to shape its focus on preserving big game and conservation and how its members were instrumental in the establishment of federal organizations like the National Park Service and the U.S. Forest Service.

“Many members — men like Theodore Roosevelt, George Bird Grinnell and Gifford Pinchot — played a seminal role in preserving our nation’s natural resources,” said Johnson. “The formation of the Boone and Crockett Club is an important part of western and our country’s environmental history and I look forward to sharing it with the public.”

For additional information about this program contact Christy Fleming, chief of interpretation at Bighorn Canyon, at 307-548-5402.
