Bob Hede

Former Powell resident Robert S. (Bob) Hede, 80, died Friday, May 30, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper following a long illness.

He was born April 11, 1928, in Denver to Rudolph S. and Ava (Lyons) Hede. He grew up in South Dakota and Montana before moving with his family to Powell where Hede Implement Co. was the family business.

He graduated from Powell High School in 1946 and went on to photography school at Southwest Photo-Arts Institute and Brooks Institute of Photography. He married Betty Lou McClelland in Powell on Nov. 12, 1950. They were married 45 years until her death in 1995.

They operated photography studios in Powell and then Worland before moving to Casper in 1960. In 1973, they opened Hede Photographers Inc. in Casper, which continues to operate under the direction of a son, Brett.

He was a member and past master of the Absarokee Lodge No. 30 AF&AM, the York Rite Bodies, the Korean Shrine Temple, the Casper Shrine Club, the Powell Rotary Club, Toastmasters International and the First Presbyterian Church in Casper.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Casper Elks Lodge No. 1353, the Petroleum Club, the Oil City Dinner Club, the Red Arrow Archery Club and a life member of the Casper Boat Club.

He was also on the board of directors of the Central Wyoming Senior Services and a volunteer with the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center.

Survivors include his sons, Robert Hede and wife of Lander and Brett Hede and wife of Casper; son-in-law, Neil Coupens of Casper; long-time companion and best friend, Ilene Peck of Casper; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ava Greeley; wife Betty; and daughter, Mitzi Coupens.

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 4. at Highland Park Church in Casper. Cremation has taken place.
