Barley trucks haul seven days a week

Posted

Rain showers slowed the area malt barley harvest last week, but the pace is still all-out, seven days a week at the Briess Malt & Ingredients Co. receiving station outside of Ralston.

“We are 50 percent complete over our entire program,” said Rick Redd, regional manager for Briess. “Southern Montana is nearly done. Wyoming is 30 to 40 percent done.”

Between 160 and 175 trucks a day are being dumped at the Briess Ralston facilities seven days a week.

On average, yields are down a little below the projected 120 to 130 bushels per acre.

“The extreme heat in July was hard on the crop,” Redd said.
