Barbara Plumb Hansen died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Powell Valley Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was 88.
She was born Nov. 24, 1923 in Greeley, Colo., to Charles and Isabella (Huffsmith) Plumb.
She attended Colorado State College of Education in Greeley. She moved to Powell with her sister, Fran, and was a valued employee at the First National Bank.
Barbara met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Hansen, on the steps of the Methodist Church in Powell. They were married on Sept. 27, 1953 in Greeley, Colo.
She farmed alongside her husband on their homestead on Heart Mountain. Barbara loved working in her flowerbeds and sharing her flowers.
She had a beautiful smile and quick wit. Barbara also loved to sing and had a lovely voice.
She was Wyoming’s first female president of Farm Bureau and an active 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church and Mountain View Circle.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Joan; and sisters Marjorie O’Farrell and Frances Dunleavy.
Barbara is survived by her husband Dick Hansen; sisters Charlotte Mundy of Elbert, Colo., Annabel Glenn of Greeley, Colo., and Agnes Weinstein of Cheyenne; daughters Ann (Mark) Copenhaver of Powell, Jayne (Len) Haggen of Holiday, Fla., and Sharon Hansen of Billings; and son Gary (Maureen) Hansen of Renton, Wash.; grandchildren Zach (Abbey) Copenhaver of San Tan Valley, Ariz., Sarah Copenhaver of Puyallup, Wash., Weston Haggen of Orlando, Fla., and Jeff Hansen of Renton, Wash.; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 6 at the First United Methodist Church in Powell.
Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery in Powell.
