Dear editor:
This is spring break for PCSD1 which means the countdown until school lets out for the summer begins. The four elementary schools (Powell and Clark) have and will receive, on average, 120-plus “backpacks” of food for each weekend of the school year.
Being able to provide the food required for six meals per school weekend is only because of the generosity of the Powell community. The Backpack Blessing of Powell program relies on donation funds. Our “Virtual Pie Sale” fundraising campaign kicks off in December, and each year enough funds have been donated to keep the program viable for the entire school year. The board of directors is so thankful for each and every donation sent to the program. This community is the best!
With rising prices, the food costs per student can run up to $40 per weekend. The board is so grateful for dedicated volunteers who pack the bags every school week and for the Honor Society students from Powell High School for delivering the individual bags to each of the elementary schools. We extend our gratitude to everyone who donates to the “backpacks.”
Donations may be sent to: Backpack Blessings of Powell, PO Box 1, Powell WY 82435. For more information our website can be accessed at: backpackblessingofpowell.com
Sincerely,
Marybeth Richardson
The Board of Directors of Backpack Blessings of Powell
