In the year of the coronavirus, the annual pie sale fundraiser for Backpack Blessings was canceled. In exchange, how about a virtual pie sale to close out 2020?
It’s an effort to substitute for the annual pie sale fundraiser that last year netted about $2,000 from the sale of 70 pies.
Backpack Blessings is Powell’s program caring for food insecure school children, sponsored and administered by representatives of several Powell churches. Backpack Blessings fills backpacks with basic food and snack items as weekend “care packages” for about 125 elementary school children each week. Filling a backpack costs $7.50 per child each week.
Here’s how the virtual pie sale is proposed to fill the gap: Bakers and pie lovers are asked to donate the dollar amount that would have been expended to bake a pie or purchase a pie.
Donations may be made to Backpack Blessings of Powell, P.O. Box 1, Powell, WY 82435.
Members of the Backpack Blessings board of directors include Sharon Earhart, Jackie Hall, Linda Easum, Diane Hensman, Emily Thomas, Sara Prescott, Judy Good, Marybeth Richardson and Sandy Ferrell. For more information, contact Richardson at 307-754-5399.
