The Powell Panthers snapped an 11-game losing streak via an impressive home victory Friday night, defeating the visiting Worland Warriors 34-7 to win a game for the first time since October 2024.

Welcoming in another 3A East opponent the Panthers (1-1) took on the Warriors (0-2).
Powell got off to a quick start, as the special teams played a huge part following a stop of the Warriors’ first drive.
Pratt Wambeke broke through the line, rushing into the path of the punter and blocking the kick. He hauled in the ball and rushed the final 30 yards into the end zone to make it 7-0 with 8:07 left in the first quarter.
“(It went) right in his hands. That was awesome,” coach Chase Kistler said.
The rest of the first quarter remained scoreless, but the Panthers were driving late.
Lincoln Crawford capped off the Panther drive early in the second quarter, going 11 yards for the score to make it 13-0 after a missed PAT.
Worland had the best chance to end the half, after a bad snap on a punt set up the Warriors deep in Panther territory with two minutes left.
The Powell defense stood tall, turning the ball over on downs with four seconds left and going into the locker room up 13-0.
“At halftime our guys were really frustrated just because things weren’t going our way other than that play. Even offensively we were doing all right,” Kistler said. “We just weren’t executing to the fullest. At halftime, I just told them to take a deep breath and it’ll come. Just be ready … It paid off.”
The Panthers found the end zone again midway through the third quarter, as Bradlee Lasson hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Tanner Seifert to make it 20-0.
Worland found a sliver of momentum later in the third, when a Panther fumble was recovered by the Warriors with 3:14 remaining.
The visitors capitalized on the next play, rushing past the Panther defense for a 33-yard touchdown.
Powell appeared to have an immediate response, when Braxton Nelson returned the kickoff for a touchdown, but a block in the back negated the play.
Fortunately for the Panthers a big play quickly followed, as Seifert found Breckyn Kobbe behind the Warrior defense as Kobbe raced to the end zone for a 54-yard score to make it 27-7 with 1:23 left in the third quarter.
“We blocked a lot better up front. Tanner went 12-14, that’s a pretty awesome stat for a quarterback and that means our guys are catching the ball too,” Kistler said.
Powell scored again late, when Trevin Morton had a 56-yard rush that later set up a 16-yard receiving touchdown pass from Karcher Foley to Isaiah Torres with 42 seconds left to make the final score 34-7.
That win snapped an 11-game losing streak which dated back to the 2024 postseason, as the last win for the Panthers was a 14-6 win over Evanston to end that regular season.
“Last year was a long year, but we were getting better every day. This year too over the summer, and it was just a matter of time getting that monkey off our back,” Kistler said. “I’m just happy for the guys that they got that win. I know it was affecting a lot of them, and our coaching staff too. It was eating at us too. I’m just happy for them. They worked their butts off and they earned a win.”
Following the win, the Panthers shared in the moment and celebrated with the student body, which Kistler said was a great sight to see.
“It’s fun to see the school having fun with that and supporting our guys out there. That’s a good feeling,” he said.
Seifert went 12-14 through the air for 151 yards and three touchdowns, while Foley chipped in going 2-2 for 31 yards and a touchdown pass.
Crawford led on the ground, carrying the ball 16 times for 76 yards and a touchdown, while Kobbe led with three receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Morton led with 10 tackles, Foley led with two tackles for loss, Jacob Christofalos had a sack, Wambecke had two blocked kicks with a recovery and Kobbe snagged an interception.
ROAD CONTESTS
After opening the year with two home games the Panthers now head on the road for a pair of nonconference games, starting in Rawlins at 5 p.m. on Friday.
The Outlaws defeated 2A Burns 21-8 but fell to Green River 12-3 this past week in an inter-conference
matchup.
“A three-day weekend to let these guys heal up,” Kistler said. “Let them rest up and celebrate this win this weekend.”
