When Scott and Laura Davis purchased their Avenue E home in early June, they knew they wanted to add a porch.
“We felt it was the ugliest home on the street,” Scott said.
The project took three weeks from start to finish, beginning after Labor Day weekend and wrapping up Oct. 1. Lorenzo Mendoza, a local contractor with LM Construction, did the work on the porch, while the Davises did the painting; the couple’s neighbor, Tim VanGrinsven, had recommended Mendoza.
“Lorenzo and his crew did a fantastic job,” Scott said. “We gave him a picture of what we wanted and it turned out better than we could have hoped. We are very pleased with the outcome.”
Mendoza started when he said he would start and completed the project sooner than expected, Scott said.
Inside the home, Scott has laid new flooring and has also painted.
“We have a few other projects that we are working on to update the interior,” he said, adding that he will do most of the interior work himself.
The Davises are new to Powell, “and we love it here,” Scott said.
