August Lawrence “Larry” Beckmann III, 66, died Dec. 22, 2009, at Powell Valley Hospital.
Larry was born Aug. 31, 1943, in Powell, the son of Clara (Suko) and August Lawrence Beckmann Jr. He graduated from Powell High School in 1961.
He married Carole Linger in 1965 in Laramie, and they made their home in Powell, where Larry worked as a taxidermist and owned Sunlight Taxidermy from 1980 - 2005. In 2005, he closed the business when he began his long battle with multiple sclerosis. He also worked with Safeway Stores for 25 years, starting when he was 16 years old.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and was active in Ducks Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, and he was an award-winning taxidermist. His artistic taxidermy work was featured in “Taxidermy Revue” magazine, he was associated with the Denver Museum of Natural History, and his work was on display at the Buffalo Bill Dam Visitors' Center.
Larry is survived by his wife, Carole; daughters Tami Kaye Asay (Kurt) of Byron and Cheri Raye Siar (Sean) of Dubois, Penn.; and grandchildren Tyler Asay, Brandon Asay, Mikayla Asay and Krista Siar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with interment at Crown Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Butch Knapp, Kurt Asay, Tyler Asay, Brandon Asay, Mike Snell and Bob Nemitz. Sean Siar is the honorary pallbearer.
