August happenings at the library

Posted

It is officially the last month of summer and we have wrapped up and finished another great year of summer reading at the Park County Libraries. Thank you to everyone who supported and participated in summer reading this year.  I encourage everyone who hasn’t visited the library lately to pop in and see some of the little changes made to the library to make it more inviting for everyone, and also stop by and say hello to the new branch manager Roseanne Spiering.

The Powell and Cody Libraries will be closed till 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11 for staff training. We will reopen at 2 p.m. until our normal closing time of 5 p.m. to provide library service for everyone.

The Park County Library will be at the Farmers’ Market so make sure and stop by every Monday and say hello and check out our Outreach Van. Also, on Monday, Aug. 14 the Outreach Van will be visiting Clark from 2-5 p.m.

Once again Powell Library will be celebrating back to school with banana splits. From preschoolers to high school seniors, come celebrate back to school with us on Tuesday, Aug. 22 from
3:15-4 p.m.

Friday Morning Card Games are back at the library. Please join us at 9 a.m. every Friday morning to play cards, cribbage, puzzles and other fun card games.

Sign up for our Tuesday Book Discussion and join us on Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. where we will be discussing “84 Charing Cross Road” by Helene Hanff.

Join us for Adult Craft Night on Thursday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. to make miniature cactus gardens. Sign up at the circulation desk.

On Saturday, Aug. 19 the Park County Library will be at Buffalo Bill Dam for Great Dam Day, so stop by and say hello as you visit one of the great wonders of Park County.

August means back to school for teens, but the library will continue to offer fun activities. On Wednesdays at 2 p.m. stop by and chat with the young adult librarian. Thursday, Aug. 3 and Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. join us for craft time where we will be having fun with Perler Beads, so come make a fun creation. On Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. join us for origami. On Thursday, Aug. 24 at 3:30 p.m. we will have fun making a collage. In preparation for early release days on Friday, teens can come to the library at 2 p.m. for fun activities. Aug. 4 is nature mobiles and yarn craft, Aug. 11 is seed bead bling, Aug. 18 is movie and stations and Aug. 25 is Nintendo Switch Game Tournament. Teens sign up for Nintendo Switch Tournament and have fun gaming in the library.

Powell Library has lots of fun filled activities for children during the summer. Join Ms. Renee every Monday at 10:30 a.m. for Baby and Toddler Time and every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time. Kids come join us on Tuesday, Aug. 22 at 10:30 a.m. for cup stacking. Lego Club for kindergarten-fifth grade students is back, join us Thursday, Aug. 31 at 3:30 p.m.

In August, stop by on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 10-1 p.m. and every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. for the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Stop by and take home as many books as you can and support the Powell Library. Also, if you’re interested in helping out with book sales and supporting the library, consider joining the Friends of the Library.

Do you want to help support the library and help create a new Powell Library? Then please consider joining the Park County Library Foundation. We are looking for Powell representation and would love to have the Powell community well represented. The foundation only meets a few times a year and we can even meet in the Powell Library. If interested in learning more and want to join, contact Karen Horner at 307-527-1881 and help strengthen the library.

We have seeds from our seed library as you start your gardens and we have nature backpacks filled with items to enhance your local hike around Cody. As always, we have binge boxes, switch games and console, health kits, puzzles, Rokus, blood pressure kits and much more to borrow.

Reminder all Park County Libraries will be closed Saturday, Sept. 2 and Monday, Sept. 4 in recognition of Labor Day.
