August happenings at the library

The Park County Library Foundation will be having a huge Book Sale on Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 23 in the Cody Library in Grizzly Hall. 

This will be a bag sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days with all proceeds from the sale going to support the Park County Libraries. Fill up your bag for $5, take home some great books and support the Park County Libraries.

The Powell Library is offering Beginning Crochet for all ages. Join us on Monday, Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. to start learning how to crochet.

Powell Library is once again offering a fun Craft Supply Swap on Monday, Aug. 11 from 4-7 p.m. If you have too many craft supplies or are looking for some new supplies, join us for this fun swap of creativity.

Join us on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. as Ted Smith, the horticulture educator from UW Extension, discusses How to Harvest and Save Seeds.

All ages are welcome to join us for Bring Your Own Crafternoon every Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. Enjoy hanging out with other crafters as you work on your craft projects.

All ages craft time will be Friday, Aug. 8 from 1-3 p.m. Come make Floating Sting Rays.

Grab your Altered Book Club kit after Aug. 13 and create a Book Dahlia.

A session of the Ages 10 and Up Art Series will be on Friday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. as we learn  about Relief Printmaking. Sign ups are required for this art series.

Craft Time for Ages 10 and Up will be on Monday, Aug. 18 from 1-3 p.m. Come learn how to create Zendoodle Art.

Teens come join us at the library for Teen Crafternoon. Come make origami animals on Friday, Aug. 22 from 1-3 p.m.

Join us for Adult Craft Night on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 6 p.m to make your own Wind Chime out of old keys. Adult Craft Night will be at the Powell Elks Lodge at 581 N. Clark St.

Children ages 10 and up join us on Friday, Aug. 29 from 1-3 p.m. for an afternoon of board games and fun. Stop by and play a variety of games available.

Powell Library is offering different book discussions for all your literary tastes; all book discussions meet at the Homesteader Hall meeting room. The Tuesday Afternoon Book Discussion meets on Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. where we will be discussing “Switchboard Soldiers” by Jennifer Chiaverini. The Tuesday evening book group meets on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. and will discuss “ How Can I Help You,” by Laura Sims. The Tuesday Evening Book Group will also meet again on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m. to discuss “The Poet,” Michael Connelly. 

Powell Library is offering Tech Tuesday; sign up for a one-on-one session with Park County Library IT who can help you with your device problems. Tech Tuesday will be on Aug. 19, sign ups required.

Parents, we will be offering two special story times in addition to our regular program. Join us Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m for Story Time at the StoryWalk at Homesteader Park. Then join us on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. for Story Time at the Caboose at the Homesteader Museum. Bring the kids to the Powell Library for our wonderful children’s programming. Powell Library is offering Sensory Playtime for Toddlers on Monday, Aug. 4 at 10:30 a.m. We will have Toddler Time every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Join us every Wednesday for Story Time at 10:30 a.m.

Parents remember we have Early Literacy Kits as well as tonies for checkout.

Also sign up your child for 1000 Books before Kindergarten. Make sure and check out the new book at the StoryWalk at Homesteader Park. This month’s story is “The World and Everything In It,” by Kevin Henkes.
