Artists sought to create new Cody mural

Posted

One of downtown Cody’s more prominent walls will soon become a work of art.

The City of Cody’s public arts committee is currently seeking an artist to “tell an inclusive story of the Cody region through a bold and colorful mural design” on the side of the Bargain Box Furniture Store. The downtown shop sits just south of the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and 16th Street, which is one of Cody’s busiest thoroughfares.

The city issued a request for proposals in early January and has given interested artists until 9 p.m. Friday to submit an application. Applicants must submit an artist statement and five examples of completed artwork. They should not submit a proposed design, as only the finalists will be asked to develop a proposal.

The Cody Public Arts Committee is due to select an artist by March 25, with the project due to be completed by the end of June.

The total budget for the mural — which will cover a space measuring 45 feet long and 17.5 feet high — is $13,388. Most of the money is coming from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund, which awarded the city a $10,000 grant last year.
