The Powell community is invited to join Alice as she follows the rabbit and meets the unique characters who dwell in Wonderland.
Powell High School students will present a theatrical production of “Alice in Wonderland” at 7 p.m. Friday at the PHS auditorium. Local elementary school students will see the play on Thursday.
The production is based on Lewis Carroll’s classic, and it includes most of the iconic characters from the original story, said Bob Hunt, the play’s director.
A wild story to condense, there are a lot of adaptations of “Alice in Wonderland,” he said. Hunt read through six scripts and chose one that also ends up having a message, he said.
“We chose the one that is best for our audience,” he said.
PHS students have performed other fairytales in recent years, but “Alice in Wonderland” was one the school hadn’t pursued in the past.
The assistant director is Maddi Van Epps, and Madisen McDonald is the choreographer.
Rachel Wurzel stars as Alice, and Gretchen Moretti will play the White Rabbit. Dawson Hutzenbieler takes on the roles of the Mad Hatter and Humpty Dumpty. Madi Morrow will appear as the March Hare, and Rosie Dahl will play the Caterpillar.
Joining forces for the roles of Tweedledee and Tweedledum are Tanner Barngrover and Miles Rumbolz.
Chessie, based on the Cheshire Cat, will be played by Ashley Drew Harris.
Claire Feathers will play the Duchess, and Moriah Miller will appear as the cook.
Portraying the Queen of Hearts is Amber Munjar and Garrett Musso will play the King of Hearts.
Racheal Bright will appear as the Dormouse. The Gryphon will be played by Shania Pratt and the Mock Turtle by Aspen Smith.
Katie Brown appears as Frog Footman, Connor Hunt as the Knave, and Celine Hall as the Courtier.
The Gardener will be played by Lilith Larsen-Renaud, and Dahl, Feathers and Tiffany Zickefoose will play the parts of flowers.
The cast of soldiers is Alexa Smith, Shelbe Chouinard, Brown and Hall will take on the role of the executioner.
Zickefoose and Dahl also will portray ladies.
Tickets for Friday’s performance cost $5 for adults and $3 for students, and will be available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.
